The Power of Advocacy
Advance Family Planning’s (AFP) impact report, The Power of Advocacy, marks the culmination of 13 years of family planning advocacy across Africa, Asia, and Latin America. The report traces AFP’s history, approach, and impact.
Fueled by a diverse network of dedicated advocates, AFP partners achieved 3,454 hard-fought advocacy wins at every level of government, potentially benefiting more than 190 million women of reproductive age since 2009.
AFP mobilized US $185.7 million in funding for family planning since 2012. Over 309 Organizations in at least 42 countries are using AFP’s advocacy approach, SMART Advocacy. There are now at least 677 Individuals with the capacity to use and diffuse SMART Advocacy
The Power of Advocacy report also shares recommendations to maintain and grow family planning advocacy well beyond the life of the initiative, which ends in 2023.
Since the report’s release, AFP has sustained advocacy wins, advoacy activities, and durable local ownership of family planning funding.
Legacy of Gates Institute
Honoring William H. Gates Sr.
William H. Gates Sr. has many profound legacies, but the one that resonates most with us is his investment in the vision that created the Gates Institute at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health within the Department of Population, Family and Reproductive Health.
A philanthropist, lawyer, and humanitarian, Mr. Gates had a profound influence in championing causes related to global equity and campaigns to address vaccine-preventable diseases, reduce infant mortality, promote reproductive health, and build schools.
