The Family Planning News Network (FPNN) is a global media platform mobilizing journalists, content creators, technical experts, and community reporters to produce accurate, compelling coverage of family planning and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).
What Does FPNN Do?
It Unites Voices Across the SRHR Field
Launched in 2022 by the William H. Gates Sr. Institute for Population and Reproductive Health (WHGI) at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (BSPH), FPNN answered a direct call from the International Conference on Family Planning (ICFP) community: SRHR needed stronger media coordination and trusted storytelling.
That call has only grown more urgent. As reproductive rights face rollbacks and global funding cuts threaten access to care, independent, evidence-based reporting is one of the field's most powerful—and most underfunded—tools. Family planning remains underreported, targeted by misinformation, and too often covered without the people most affected.
FPNN fills that gap—building unified narratives that counter disinformation, confront anti-rights movements, and keep human-centered stories at the forefront.
How FPNN Strengthens the SRHR Field
Through multimedia reporting, fellowships, trainings, and strategic partnerships, FPNN elevates frontline voices and strengthens locally led advocacy worldwide. Network members report from global convenings like ICFP, receive technical training and expert access, and publish across sectors, formats, and borders — bringing seldom-heard stories to global audiences.
