Celebrating 25 years of scholarship and social change, the WH Gates Sr. Institute at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health recently hosted its 2024 Annual Summer Convening. The event brought together global partners and staff, both in-person and virtually, for two days of reflection, strategic discussions, and celebrations.

Performance Monitoring for Action (PMA) data has been highlighted in an article by Angela Okech, a renowned journalist and former ICFP EXCELL award winner, in the Nation. The article "Population Boom: Is it Africa’s Turn for a Two-Child Limit Policy?" follows the discussions held at Malawi's 9th African Population Conference. The conference brought together policymakers, researchers, and academics to debate whether African countries should adopt policies to reduce birth rates to replacement fertility levels.

Honoring William H. Gates Sr.

A philanthropist, lawyer, and humanitarian, William H. Gates Sr. had a profound influence in championing causes related to global equity and campaigns to address vaccine preventable diseases, reduce infant mortality, promote reproductive health, and build schools.

A visionary leader, he invested in the founding of the William H. Gates Sr. Institute for Population and Reproductive Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health within the Department of Population, Family and Reproductive Health.

His legacy contributes to scientific discovery, advocacy for global health initiatives, and training the next generation of leaders who will advance the many initiatives that benefited from his passion and commitment.
