What is the History of the GHLAA?

As a WHGI platform based at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (BSPH), the GHLAA imparts innovative approaches to leadership, program management, policy analysis, strategic planning, communications, advocacy, and organizational change.

Through dynamic discussions and hands-on exercises, GHLAA participants learn new skills, apply them to real-world examples, and reflect on what they have learned.

This discussion-based course was originally designed and implemented by the following esteemed faculty from Johns Hopkins University:

• Henry Mosley, MD, MPH - Professor Emeritus, Department of Population, Family and Reproductive Health, Johns Hopkins BSPH
• Ben Lozare, PhD - Former Director, Training and Capacity Building, Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs (CCP)
• Jose Rimon II, MA, PgDip - Former Director, William H. Gates Sr. Institute for Population and Reproductive Health and Senior Scientist, Department of Population, Family and Reproductive Health, Johns Hopkins BSPH
• Arzum Ciloglu, MPH, DrPH - Former Director, Capacity Strengthening, Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs (CCP)

Dr. Mosley, Dr. Lozare, and Mr. Rimon were the architects and instructors of the much-lauded Strategic Leadership for Health System Transformation course at Johns Hopkins University.

How is the GHLAA Building the Next Generation of Global Health Leaders Today?

The current iteration of the GHLAA builds on its foundation by integrating SMART Advocacy training elements alongside its established leadership curriculum. This expanded approach equips participants with the skills to strengthen leadership, develop strategic advocacy approaches, and advance policy and programmatic change.

Participants who successfully complete the course are eligible to become GHLAA trainers themselves, enabling them to share these skills and approaches with leaders and advocates around the world.
