A Message from WHGI Director, Dr. Philip Anglewicz

9 October 2025

This week, our community mourns the loss of Professor Emeritus Duff Gillespie, a deeply respected colleague, mentor, and friend whose vision and leadership transformed the field of family planning and reproductive health.

Duff’s impact can be felt in every corner of our work—from his role in co-developing Advance Family Planning (AFP) to his tireless advocacy for evidence-based investments in reproductive health, to his guidance and generosity as a teacher and mentor. He helped shape not only global policy and practice, but the careers and lives of countless students, staff, and faculty who carry forward his legacy.

Even in moments of sadness, we move ahead—sustained by the connections and purpose that Duff championed throughout his life. I know that everyone touched by his work and friendship looks forward, now more than ever, to coming together in Bogotá for ICFP 2025 to celebrate the progress and partnerships he helped inspire.

With gratitude and determination,

Dr. Philip Anglewicz
