The William H. Gates Sr. Institute for Population and Reproductive Health (WHGI) is pleased to announce the expansion of The Challenge Initiative (TCI) through the launch of two new regional accelerator hubs in Bangladesh and Indonesia.
The addition of these hubs marks an important milestone in TCI's continued growth and reinforces its commitment to helping local governments lead and sustain improvements in family planning and reproductive health. Bangladesh and Indonesia join TCI's existing network of regional hubs working across Africa and Asia to support locally driven solutions that improve access to high-quality health services.
Since its launch, TCI has partnered with local governments to scale proven, evidence-based approaches to family planning through a model centered on local ownership, co-investment, and sustainable systems strengthening. The new hubs will extend that model to two countries with significant opportunities to advance reproductive health outcomes through government-led action.
The Bangladesh and Indonesia hubs will serve as regional centers of learning, technical assistance, and peer exchange, supporting governments and partners in adapting and scaling effective practices to meet local needs. By connecting cities and health systems through TCI University and other learning platforms, the hubs will help accelerate the adoption of proven approaches while fostering long-term institutional capacity.
The expansion reflects growing demand for TCI's "Business Unusual" model, which empowers local leaders to drive change using their own resources, priorities, and expertise. Through this approach, TCI has demonstrated that sustainable impact is achieved when governments are equipped to lead and invest in solutions that respond to the needs of their communities.
As TCI's global network continues to grow, WHGI remains committed to advancing locally led development and strengthening health systems that can deliver lasting improvements in family planning and reproductive health for generations to come.
