Thailand: A young Haitian dental surgeon named Douvens Massé won the International Conference in Family Planning Youth Trailblazer Award 2022.

The young Haitian doctor Douvens Massé won the International Conference in Family Planning Youth Trailblazer Award 2022. This award allows him to represent the region at an international conference on family planning that will take place in Pattaya, Thailand, from November 14 to 17.

Douvens Massé, 25 years old, was selected from more than 300 candidates of young leaders from around the world. He is one of the winners, which entitles him to receive a fixed travel grant that includes travel and accommodation expenses for his stay in Thailand, according to a notification letter dated February 14 sent to the winner by the organizers.

In an interview with Juno7, the winner expressed his contentment. “I am proud and also grateful,” he said. “This prize rewards the work of young people aged 18 to 35 years old in the field of family planning,” he recalled while thanking several organizations including IYAFP Haiti, Techo, Clé-Haïti who gave him space to exchange with the communities during the activities.

In addition, Douvens Massé will have a role to play during this conference, said the organizers. However, he will know his specific role by May 2022.

Douvens Massé is 25 years old. He studied management and did unfinished studies in psychology at the State University of Haiti. He studied Odontology at the Faculty of Odontology (class of 2015-2020). He is a young dental surgeon and co-founder of the Prix-dent clinic located in Delmas 60. As an enthusiast of volunteerism and community life, he provides free care for children in disadvantaged communities in the country.

Note that this will be the fourth edition of this international conference on family planning. This award highlights the voice of young leaders in the field of family planning. To be selected, applicants submitted a video of up to three minutes in length that corresponded to the theme of the 2022 conference: “Family Planning and Universal Health Coverage. Innovate.
