Senior Technical Advisor

Christina Cherel is a Senior Technical Advisor at Bill & Melinda Gates Institute for Population and Reproductive Health at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, where she leads advocacy and communications for sexual and reproductive health research and programs in the Global South. She has served on the Secretariat for the International Conference on Family Planning since 2018, leading communications for the world's largest scientific convening of FP advocates, researchers, community leaders, and young people.

Christina has worked in advocacy for more than a decade, developing values-based advocacy communications, campaign design, and communications strategies. As a multifaceted issue expert with skills in digital marketing, content creation, influencer engagement, and social media strategy, Christina is passionate about addressing pressing social issues with innovative and creative approaches.

Before joining Gates Institute, Christina was a Policy and Programs Manager at the National Women's Health Network. As an issue expert for both SRHR and drug & device safety and efficacy, she supported the Network's legislative, regulatory, and judicial policy advocacy efforts.

Christina is a proud graduate of Boston University, receiving both her MPH in maternal and child health and BA with distinction in international relations & political science; and is trained in design thinking, leadership & management, and scientific writing from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and Carey School of Business.
