Caroline Moreau
Professor and WHGI Research DirectorCaroline Moreau is Professor at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Senior Researcher at the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM), and Research Director at the William H. Gates Sr. Institute for Population and Reproductive Health. Her work examines how gender, social class, race, and other forms of social inequality shape sexual and reproductive health across the life course.
Dr. Moreau brings a global perspective to sexual and reproductive health research, with experience spanning high-, middle-, and low-income settings. Since 2010, she has co-led major national sexual and reproductive health research programs in France, including studies on sexuality and sexual health, fertility, and abortion. At Johns Hopkins, she co-leads the Global Early Adolescent Study, the first global longitudinal study to examine how gender socialization influences health and wellbeing across adolescence.
As Research Director at the Gates Institute, Dr. Moreau helps shape the Institute’s global research agenda and supports efforts to generate new evidence, foster innovation, and strengthen the design, implementation, and evaluation of sexual and reproductive health programs through the Performance Monitoring for Action platform, she also supports country-led efforts to generate timely sexual and reproductive health evidence, identify actionable priorities, and strengthen the use of data to improve programs and reduce disparities.
Across her research, technical leadership, and institutional roles, Dr. Moreau is committed to producing evidence that is rigorous, policy-relevant, and actionable, with the goal of improving sexual and reproductive health and expanding equity worldwide.
