Since late 2011, Pathfinder International-Pakistan, with support from Advance Family Planning (AFP), has collaborated with the Departments of Health and Population Welfare in Pakistan’s rural Sindh province to broaden government support for the deployment of Community Midwives (CMWs) as providers of family planning services. The aim is to generate concrete evidence for the Sindh government to consider involving CMWs, an already existing cadre of health workers, in the delivery of comprehensive reproductive and safe motherhood services, including quality family planning. As a result of this collaboration a newly established multisectoral coordinating body has already taken steps to advance task-sharing of family planning services in Sindh.
