The Global Health Leadership Accelerator

An Intensive Multi-Day Training Developing the Next Generation of Global Health Leaders

The Global Health Leadership and Advocacy Accelerator (GHLAA) is a William H. Gates Sr. Institute for Population and Reproductive Health (WHGI) platform aimed at building the leadership capacity of mid-career professionals in global health.

The current iteration of the training program evolved from the Leadership Accelerators hosted between 1999 and 2014 that trained nearly 600 mid-career professionals from 71 countries. Graduates of these Leadership Accelerators have become influential figures, including government ministers and CEOs.

The History of the GHLAA

The GHLAA imparts innovative approaches to leadership, program management, policy analysis, strategic planning, communications, advocacy, and organizational change. Through dynamic discussions and hands-on exercises, participants learn new skills, apply them to real-world examples, and reflect on what they have learned.

The discussion-based course was led by the following esteemed faculty from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (BSPH):

  • Henry Mosley, MD, MPH - Professor Emeritus, Department of Population, Family and Reproductive Health, JHSPH
  • Ben Lozare, PhD - Director, Training and Capacity Building, Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs
  • Jose Rimon II, MA, PgDip - Director, William H. Gates Sr. Institute for Population and Reproductive Health and Senior Scientist, Department of Population, Family and Reproductive Health, JHSPH
  • Arzum Ciloglu, MPH, DrPH - Director, Capacity Strengthening, Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs

Dr. Mosley, Dr. Lozare, and Mr. Rimon were the architects and instructors of the much-lauded Strategic Leadership for Health System Transformation course at Johns Hopkins University.
