We are thrilled to share that Dr. Philip Anglewicz has been named Director of the William H. Gates Sr. Institute for Population and Reproductive Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health!
Dr. Anglewicz brings a wealth of experience and a deep passion for advancing reproductive health globally. His journey began as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Malawi, leading him to impactful roles at Futures Group, Tulane University, and Johns Hopkins University. As an expert in demographic change and family planning, he has made significant contributions through research, teaching, and mentorship.
Since joining the Bloomberg School in 2019, Dr. Anglewicz has served as the Principal Investigator of the Performance Monitoring for Action (PMA) platform, leading groundbreaking research on health indicators across Africa and Asia. His leadership has expanded PMA’s research portfolio, substantially increasing published manuscripts and citations. He has also served as Deputy Director of the Institute since 2020.
With a rich background in demographic studies and a deep commitment to advancing reproductive health and rights, Dr. Anglewicz is poised to lead the Institute into a new era of innovation and impact. We look forward to his vision and leadership as we embark on our 2030 strategy and prepare for the 2025 International Conference of Family Planning in Bogotá, Colombia.
Dr. Anglewicz assumed his new role on July 1, 2024, succeeding Jose “Oying” G. Rimon II, who retired after a decade of transformative leadership at the Institute.
