Nicole La Ruta

Research Assistant

Nicole is a Research Assistant at the William H. Gates Sr. Institute for Population and Reproductive Health at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, where she currently supports data management and visualization, program analytics and grant development across maternal health and sexual and reproductive health and rights initiatives in the Latin America & the Caribbean region. She has also served as part of the Scientific Subcommittee for ICFP 2025, contributing to the organization of the scientific program. With a background spanning health economics, econometrics, and data visualization, she brings a quantitative lens to translating complex research findings into accessible, decision-relevant tools for high-level stakeholders, policymakers, and other peer researchers.

Before joining the team, Nicole has applied her skills across a range of global health settings, from managing and analyzing clinical databases for Chagas disease cardiomyopathy studies in low-middle income countries, to conducting econometric analysis of human rights policy and HIV outcomes.

Nicole holds an MHS in Global Health Economics from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and a BS in Economics from Universidad Privada Boliviana. She is passionate about closing the gap between what the evidence shows and what policy does — particularly for women and children in Latin America. In her free time, she likes to hike, travel to small towns, and watch movies.
