Beth Fredrick

Deputy Director

Beth Fredrick is a lifelong advocate and an effective leader, administrator, and communicator. For over three decades she has worked to ensure that no one is left behind in attaining sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). Her focus is on evidence-based advocacy and communication, high-performing partnerships, and leadership development. She has spearheaded numerous initiatives to protect and promote SRHR in the United States and internationally. She is a Deputy Director with the Gates Institute and serves on the faculty of the Department of Population, Family and Reproductive Health, teaching and lecturing on SRHR and advocacy. For 13 years, she co-led the multi-country, results-driven Advance Family Planning (AFP) advocacy initiative. She is a co-founder of the Center for Public Health Advocacy within the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Health and was awarded the Felicia Stewart Award for Public Health Advocacy by the American Public Health Association. She has held leadership positions with the Center for Communication Programs, the International Women’s Health Coalition, and the Guttmacher Institute. She was a Bell Fellow with Harvard University, represented the Guttmacher Institute at the 1995 United Nations Beijing Conference on Women, and was adjunct faculty with the New York University Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service. She has served on the boards of Ibis Reproductive Health and Scenarios USA, and is now a board member with EMpower, a grant-making organization which supports youth programs in emerging markets, and the Asian-Pacific Resource and Research Centre for Women-US.
